Apple M1 Mac Mini
the first gen, blazing fast, M1 Mac Mini
When Apple first announced they were moving away from Intel and working on their own SOC. I decided I wanted to try to make the full switch to Mac. Prior to that I had already bought a 2020 MacBook Air and loved it so as soon as I could I picked up the 2020 M1 Mac Mini.
I primarily use for work/school, some light gaming, PhotoShop, and web development. I believe I’ll pick upthe next Mac Mini refresh with whatever new chip they decide to put in the same form factor. mac Studio looks nice but different form factor.
- 16GB RAM 16GB of RAM was probably a little overkill considering that macOS does a decent job with memory management but my thought process was I wanted to future proof it since there was no way I could upgrade it.
- 500GB SSD I didn’t want to go with the smallest amount at 256GB and risk running out so went with just under double that and got an external M.2 used with the dock I picked up.
- WD 1TB M.2 A picked up a Western Digital Blue 3D NAND 1TB M.2 a few months ago to add some extra storage to the 2020 Mac Mini and it has been working pretty well up to this point. Added it using a type-c USB hub.
- Satechi Type-C Stand & Hub I got this hub as on a recommendation from a friend and it has been great so far. I got the one that allows for putting M.2 drives in it which is how I use that Western Digital 1TB drive with my M1 Mac Mini.
